In this issue:
It may be hard to believe, but back-to-school time is already here! Our building has been bustling with KB having started classes yesterday, and schools like SPS and Ozark starting in a matter of days. Some may lament the loss of summer, but many conversations I've had in recent days landed on a readiness to jump into the new school year; to settle into a new routine, and leave a hectic summer behind. Some are ready to move on from difficult seasons of pain or loss and get a fresh start; some are just eager to connect with friends they've not seen much during the break.
Whatever the reason, an eagerness for this new season is certainly not a bad thing, but what we do with where we've been may be. Let me put it another way; if our eagerness for what is to come is out of a desire to forget what has passed, we do ourselves a disservice. Why? Because knowing where we've been is vital to knowing where we're going. Further (and most importantly), reflecting on what God has done is vital to seeing Him more clearly in our lives ahead.
In Deuteronomy 6, we find the shema; "Hear, O Israel" it begins, and follows with a call for us to love the Lord with our whole heart, soul and might. We are then given a number of ways to remind ourselves of who our God is, and how we are to respond to Him. We are to teach our children to love the Lord, talk about him as we walk, when we lie down, when we rise. Write these reminders on the doorposts and on our gates.
Why? We see in Deuteronomy 6:10-13 (ESV):
And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you--with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant--and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
We are all bound to face seasons we would like to wish away, things we'd rather move on from and forget all about. But if we believe God is present even in the valley of death's shadow, then even (and especially) as we look back on those seasons, we may catch a glimpse at God's goodness and faithfulness that we would miss if we simply put that time away and forgot. As we step into this new season, may we ask God to help us see His hand in where we've been, so we may also see Him more clearly in where we're headed.

Summer in the Psalms - God's Playlist
Did you know that the Psalms are actually divided into five books? Now through August 30th, The Springs will be reading through the fourth book of the Psalms, which includes chapters 90-106. This initiative will be a great way to spend some daily time in the Word and will be a great study for new to seasoned believers alike. We are also excited to spend time in the same book together as a congregation! Bookmarks for the summer reading plan are available in the Lobby!
Summer in the Psalms Sunday Morning Class || Now - 8/30 || 10:30 AM || Rm 120/122
Over the summer our church family will be working our way through the fourth section of the Psalms by using a summer reading plan & through our weekly sermons. To enrich our experience in the Psalms we are providing a 8 week discussion based class through August 30th at 10:30 AM. The focus of this time will be to discuss both the Psalms from the previous weeks readings as well as process the sermon from the 9:00 AM service. This class will be led by Pastors & Elders. Whether you’re new to The Springs or have been here a while, this is a great place for discussion, growth & fellowship. We hope you’ll stop by!
Summer Splash || 8/16 || 6:30 PM
Join us at the Nixa Community Center (701 N. Taylor Way, Nixa, MO 65714). Come enjoy light snacks, fellowship and pool time. We are also excited for our fifth annual Belly-Flop Contest and a new Diving World Cup Contest! You won't want to miss this night! Veteran's Coming Home Lunch || 8/19
We are in need of volunteers to serve at the luncheon. Please bring donations to the church by Sunday, August 16th. You can drop donations off in the cabinet located next to the Local Missions counter, by the Worship Center doors.
Ladies, join us for Gather & Give: A Taste of the Nations || 8/22 || 5:00 PM || The Springs Church
Ladies, you are invited to join us for a progressive style dinner. We will be dining on food and drink from other countries we support through missions. Take a trip through Turkey, Panama, Hungary and Vietnam. Each country will either feature a drink, appetizer, entree or dessert. There is a cost of $10 per person. Sign up at the sign-up table in the Lobby.

Join us on Wednesday, August 26th, at 6:30 PM for our MUMS Kickoff! Grab a chair and join us for a fun, relaxing evening with a summer camp theme! There will be laughter, fellowship, and a great time together. You won't want to miss it!

Realm Account & Directory
Realm is an online tool we use to help update and stay connected with our congregation via our newsletter, announcements, signups for certain events, digital directory and more. When we first joined Realm, we helped walk much of our congregation through the process of getting connected. Since that time, we've had many new families join the church, and questions from many about services that are available in Realm.
If you're a member or regular attender and don't currently have a realm account, an invitation email was sent to your inbox. If you didn't receive an email or need help getting connected, we're happy to help!
Once you get connected, you can update your information and settings, add a photo for your directory listing, and access the directory, newsletter, signups for certain events, and more. To make it one step easier to add your picture to Realm, we are planning to schedule a few Sunday mornings where one of our members will be available to take your picture. Keep an eye on the newsletter for more details!
