Psalm 139:1 (ESV) O Lord, you have searched me and known me
A simple exclamation from David, but one filled with true awe and wonder; and vulnerability. This chapter is full of familiar verses we often see on Hobby Lobby plaques and Facebook images. It is here that David recognizes God's omnipresence in his life, God's familiarity with every aspect of David's being; that God knit David together in his mother's womb (v.13). These are passages that are full of encouragement. We see that God is present in every moment of our lives, and His care for us extends to every detail. It is important, though, to also consider the sovereignty and power on display through these verses. God searches us and knows us; not just the parts we want Him to see, but all of us. He knows our every action, every thought, every intention. This is where it can get a bit scary or uncomfortable; there is no option for privacy or anonymity for us. God knows everything about us, even the ugly things; and as we know from David's life, he shared in that ugliness. He had reason to try and hide away just as we are often tempted to do. Instead, David acknowledges God's holiness through reverent fear.
Psalm 139:14 (ESV) I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Further, David proceeds to welcome God into the places where he struggles. Unlike Adam and Eve as they hid in the garden from the shame of their sin, David closes this Psalm with this invitation, one we would do well to imitate
Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV) Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Youth Challenge Conference Envelope Fundraiser || Now through 5/31
Summer is coming quickly, which means our Student Ministry is preparing for our trip to Challenge Conference (a nationwide youth conference with the EFCA)! We'll head to Kansas City, MO the week of July 13th-18th for an amazing week of worship, service, and prayer. We will have our Envelope Fundraiser available through May 31st in the church lobby to help with the group expenses for the group to go to this impactful conference (transportation, hotel cost, gas, chaperones, etc.). Would you support our group through prayer, and also consider taking an envelope to give towards our trip? Whether a gift of $1 or $100, anything would be a blessing to our students as they are poured into and also invest in others!

In keeping with Tom and Pattiās wishes, this will be a simple and relaxed time together. We look forward to this time of encouragement, appreciation, and warm fellowship as we thank them for the many ways they have served our church through the years.
A basket is available in the Lobby for anyone who would like to share a card or note of gratitude and blessing with the Semmelbecks. We would also like to bless them with a monetary gift. If you would like to contribute to this, please simply make a note for "Semmelbeck Blessing" whether giving via check or online.
