In this issue:
As I walked through the church lobby today, I couldn't help but smile at the decor and feel a bit like I was strolling through a pumpkin patch. Though far fewer of us today live by the farming calendar compared to a century ago, we still celebrate the fall season with symbols of bounty. Pumpkins and gourds, corn stalks, wheat, hay bales and more remind us that it's harvest time, even while many of the trees have yet to start changing colors. These thoughts of harvest brought a story to my mind from John 4. In it, Jesus has just finished talking with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well, and his disciples are trying to make sense of Jesus' lack of appetite as they return from a trip to town to buy food.
Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
In reflecting on this story, I can't help but think of conversations I've had in past weeks with many friends who are struggling to reach someone for Christ. Even through much prayer, many conversations and a great deal of patience, they feel as though the person to whom they're sharing the gospel is no closer to knowing Jesus, or in some cases even further from Him. They've done a great deal of planting, but haven't seen the seeds sprout. And while this can be discouraging, notice here that "others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." While we may have times when we share the gospel but don't see the fruit of that labor ourselves, we also see many instances where people are ready, sometimes even eager, to come to Jesus. In those moments, the fields "white for harvest," someone else planted those seeds! And we have the joy of celebrating that harvest together! Paul puts it well in 1 Corinthians 3:6-8:
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.
If you are planting and discouraged by the lack of growth, remember that the increase comes from God, and in His perfect timing. The wait may not be easy, and you may not get to see the fruit of that work yourself, but the God who set you to this work sees. And when you enter the labor of another and see the bounty of God's work of salvation, thank God for those who planted the seeds that brought that person to Jesus.

Men - You're invited to 2nd Wednesday || 10/8 || 6:30–7:35 AM || The Springs Fireside Room
Men of The Springs,
Join us for 2nd Wednesday—a space created for men to connect, encourage one another, and grow as disciples of Jesus in the real world.
Our purpose is simple but vital: to build friendships and pursue Christ together—as men facing real challenges, striving to live faithfully in the middle of them.
In September, we kicked off our series by seeing that to live as Jesus means to follow Him as Lord by imitating His character and priorities in everyday life. This month, we’ll go deeper by wrestling with an important truth: Being a disciple of Jesus comes with a cost—and so does choosing not to be one.
Come early, grab some coffee, and start your day with purpose.
Let’s walk together as men becoming more like Christ.
See you Wednesday, October 8th at 6:30 AM in the Fireside Room. If you have questions or need more information contact Pastor Tom (tom@thesprings.church).

Housemoot at The Springs || 10/24 & 10/25 || The Springs Church
You're invited to a weekend of fellowship, creativity and reflection (and yummy food) at Housemoot at The Springs, happening Friday and Saturday, October 24th-25th.
What is a "Housemoot"? Housemoot is a localized version of Hutchmoot, which is an annual weekend conference hosted by the Rabbit Room welcoming writers, musicians, artists and thinkers who believe that creativity is an essential practice of living life in the image of our Creator. While Hutchmoot itself takes place in Nashville, Housemoot allows groups from anywhere to participate in the discussion, music, meals and fellowship of the conference in their own communities.
During Housemoot, you can expect to hear from great speakers on topics relating to our walk with Christ and study of the Word, and the ways in which both our artistic expression and experiencing of the arts are inseparably linked to our Creator. Between sessions, we will enjoy music, liturgies, meals and conversation!
The keynote speakers this year are Tim Mackie and Jon Collins, co-founders of The Bible Project. Their remote session will be part of Friday evening's events, so even if you can't make it Saturday, we'd love for you to join us for this one!
What does it cost? Housemoot at The Springs is FREE! There are a few areas where you can "do your bit" (perhaps bringing something to share during our mealtimes) but you need not bring anything but yourself.
Will there be childcare? We will not have anyone here to care for kids, but the event is family friendly. If you have older children you believe would gain from the experience, they are absolutely welcome to join you at the event!
How do I find out more and sign up? Since we'll be having meals together, it's important for us to know who's planning to attend! To RSVP and for more information on the event, schedule and more, contact Mary Griffin [(417) 300-0972] or Pastor Rob [rob@thesprings.church or (417) 531-1616].
