In this issue:
As a long-time resident of the Ozarks, I've heard a great many complaints about summers here over the years: the humidity, insects, nuisance plants. And while I've never loved summer much myself, I do have a soft spot for this particular window in which we find ourselves right now, that last official month of the season when things finally start to dry out, grasses shift from soft and verdant to crunchy and brown, the bugs are fewer and the weather quiets. In the bustle of the new school year it can be easy to miss, but the last stretch of summer often brings a period of calm to creation. There's a feeling of anticipation, a readiness for change that permeates the summer feeling and sets our eyes ahead to the fall, harvest time, the holidays. If you feel it's too early for that sort of thinking, bear in mind that pumpkin spice things return next week!
A season of anticipation is true in the church as well; in fact, it defines the life of the church. Ever since Jesus ascended (Acts 1), we believers have been in a season of waiting, looking forward to His return. I love the way John expresses this in Revelation 22, after Jesus says multiple times "I am coming soon..."
Revelation 22:20b - ...Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
Though we don't know when Christ will return (Mark 13:32-37), we are called to live expectantly, diligent and prepared. If you find yourself rarely looking forward to Christ's return, consider that busy life and abundant distractions have a knack for clouding our view. May we be found faithful, joyful and with praise on our lips at His return!
Summer in the Psalms - God's Playlist
Did you know that the Psalms are actually divided into five books? Now through August 31, The Springs is reading through the third book of the Psalms, which includes chapters 73-89. This initiative will be a great way to spend some daily time in the Word and will be a great study for new to seasoned believers alike. We are also excited to spend time in the same book together as a congregation!
Bookmarks for the summer reading plan are available in the Lobby!

Precepts Bible Study - Daniel (Part 1 of 2) || 9/25
On September 25th we will begin book 1 (of 2) of Daniel: Threatened with death, Daniel stuck to his guns and refused to adopt a pagan lifestyle. His worldview had God at the center and he lived it out even under extreme pressure to change. Learn to adopt a biblical worldview and adhere to it even when it's not the norm. Part 1 covers Daniel 1-6.
