In this issue:
It's hard to believe we're already nearing summer's end. School began for some already this week, with others only days away. Even if you're not living on the school schedule anymore, the changing seasons tend to be a natural starting point for new things: habits, commitments, studies, social groups and more. New expectations and responsibilities are often uncomfortable at the start, but with that discomfort come also opportunities to grow and serve others in new ways. As we begin this new season, let us do so prayerfully and with intention. We see in Paul's letter to the Colossians a great directive and reminder of where our priorities should be.
Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
There is both a challenge and freedom in approaching your responsibilities with this mindfulness. The challenge of knowing that every action we take, every goal we set, and every effort we make is ultimately in service to Christ reminds us to be diligent and hardworking; The freedom of knowing that He whom we serve is the one who made us, knows our hearts, has directed our steps to the challenges we're facing and will never leave us nor forsake us. As we begin this new season together, let this exhortation from that same chapter be a guide.
Colossians 3:12-17 - Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Summer in the Psalms - God's Playlist
Did you know that the Psalms are actually divided into five books? Now through August 31, The Springs is reading through the third book of the Psalms, which includes chapters 73-89. This initiative will be a great way to spend some daily time in the Word and will be a great study for new to seasoned believers alike. We are also excited to spend time in the same book together as a congregation!
Bookmarks for the summer reading plan are available in the Lobby!
